Oddments & Contraptions
Custom Artist's Desk
This project was commissioned by artist Andri Soteri-Proctor. Andri's unique drawing style involves liquid inks which she flows across the canvas. The desk needed to freely tilt at any angle, but also lock into position at any given point, being sturdy enough, once locked, to lean on when drawing.
To solve this problem, I built a system of lathe jigs to turn a giant spherical bearing from laminated birch ply. This was then sandwiched between the upper and lower surfaces of the desk, which clamp together, holding the desktop at the desired angle when tightened.

Graphics
A selection of flyers, posters and scenic print I have made over the years.

Knives
I make these for fun, though I'd love to get good enough to start selling them.

The Pyrometer
I built this pyrotechnic prop for a magic show. It's based on an old bakelite multimeter. Three pyros and a lightbulb can be triggered independently, and the whole thing is designed to be simply and safely reset by a solo touring performer.

Woodturning
Woodturning is a joy and a passion. I love turning old bits of scrap ply and firewood into beautiful objects, and the process is really calming and zenlike. I'd do this full time if I could.

This Sax Is On Fire
I built two flame-throwing gas-powered saxophones and one with sound responsive dancing LEDs for this spectacular globally touring ambient performance company.
The LED sax (which also shoots fire) was remarkably complex, requiring a mixture of digital and analogue electronics, as well as a range of skills from hand-forging custom parts, to coding in Python for the onboard Raspberry Pi.
Concept by Desmond O'Connor
With thanks to Cris Howes for the laser cutting and invaluable advice

Tempo - Escape Rooms
Converted Bath's old Temperance Hall into two escape rooms. I took this project from the back-of-a-fag-packet stage to complete realisation of stage one (a fully finished, open business with one escape room) and about 50% of the way through stage two (a second, larger room) before the project was unfortunately put on ice.

Alcove Units
Built-in shelving and storage for a living room restoration in a Victorian house.

Storage bench
A basic storage bench for a family room, overengineered for the wear and tear of a household with small children.

Victorian Four-Panel Door
Recreating a traditional Victorian four panel front door for a house with an unusually sized doorway.
I built the door from solid meranti and modern toughened glass sealed double glazing units. This was a lovely project to work on and I wish i had better photos as the end result looked stunning.
